Year 1 – Information page 1
Book bags and home readers
- These are the bags that children use to keep their home readers in. The children bring these to school every Wednesday to be changed.
- Children will bring home a new book either on a Thursday or Friday.
- We use the Bug Club scheme for home readers. The children thoroughly enjoy reading them and become famliar with the characters as the books progress.
- Please write a comment or just sign the home reading record book; this will assist in the progress and record what your child has read, it allows us to know the children have also read to an adult
- Also visiting the library is very beneficial to enhance your child’s enjoyment of reading
Homework
Homework will be given out each week depending on the work covered. The activities completed will support work carried out in school and the main concepts that are being covered. Homework will be handed out to the children on either a Thursday or Friday and this can be found inside their red book bags. Please return this every Wednesday in their red book bags. It is important that your child completes tasks at home to develop their skills and confidence in the concepts we have been learning.
Wellies
It is recommended each child have their own wellies clearly labelled, which can be left in our wellie shed. Children are encouraged to use our outside area including our giant sandpit as often as possible to develop their own learning using a variety of resources and very often we will go off exploring in our school grounds and the Forest School.
Swimming
Year 1’s will be swimming for the second half of the summer term on a Friday afternoon.
Please ensure that your child has a waterproof coat to walk over to the Leisure Centre and correct swimming kit (one piece costume for girls and above the knee shorts for boys or trunks), long hair should be tied back to help with putting on swimming hats.
In school it is extremely useful if all clothes and PE kits (including daps) can be labelled with your child’s name to help with finding items of clothing that have gone astray!
Water Bottles
These can be brought in on a Monday and taken home on a Friday to be thoroughly washed. Your child will have access to these throughout the day to keep them hydrated. They will become independent at re-filling them using the water fountain.
Physical Education
P.E – Tuesday and Friday
PE Kit – The correct P.E kit is a house t-shirt (red, blue, green or yellow depending on your child’s house) and black shorts. A change of trainers or daps is required for hygiene reasons. No jewellery is to be worn and long hair must be tied back. Please remove earrings before coming to school.
A quick reminder that if your child is unable to participate could you please provide a note as Physical Education is acompulsory part of the Foundation Phase curriculum.
